Years ago, a strong, independent kidney foundation serviced the East Tennessee region. The National Kidney Foundation (NKF) had a presence in East Tennessee as well. After persuading from the NKF, the independent kidney foundation merged with the National Kidney Foundation in an attempt to better serve the East Tennessee area, and became a local affiliate of the NKF. However, within 18 months of this merger, the NKF shut down the Knoxville office and left the area. Many dialysis patients were left without transportation and services.
It was at this juncture that former NKF board members stepped up and established the East Tennessee Kidney Foundation, a non-profit, charitable 501(c)3 organization. We were officially chartered with the state of Tennessee in March 2010 and have been raising money to build up a patient services program again. In August of 2011 we officially starting our flagship Dianne Hagey Dialysis Transportation Program, serving several dozen patients in a few counties to start, and now serving 200 patients per month in a 15-county area. We have grown to include a Dental Assistance Program as well as a Nutritional Supplement Program, and also offer an Online Support Group Forum for those affected by kidney disease in any way.
One of the missions of the East Tennessee Kidney Foundation (ETKF) is to provide patient services and support to East Tennesseans affected by kidney disease. Our primary goal is patient services, specifically helping patients get to and from dialysis, which is necessary for their survival, and have also added other programs to assist patients with chronic kidney disease in East Tennessee. We also work with Tennessee Donor Services / Donate Life Tennessee to promote the donation of all organs for transplantation. Visit the Donate Life Tennessee website to become a registered organ donor.
The ETKF currently serves 15 counties and 200 low-income patients per month, all local East Tennesseans. We operate solely on donations, monetary and in-kind, and the care and support of our amazing community. Without you, our organization would not be possible. We at ETKF, in addition to all our dialysis patients, appreciate you and your support!
Your support DIRECTLY assists local patients and will ALWAYS stay in East Tennessee.
